Two national roads (#12 and #27) cross in Żary. A common part of them is the town's ring-road. Two of the three parts of the ring-road that have already been opened significantly improved the traffic in the town. The ring-road was co-financed by Phare Fund.

The international route E-36 (Berlin - Silesia - Cracow) runs in the vicinity of the town. The road will soon be changed into A-18 express way. On this road, on the border with Germany, 25 kilometers from Żary, in Olszyna, there is one of the largest cargo terminals.

The express way is marked E-15 on the German side, and it provides very fast access to Berlin along the express way system. The international airports in Berlin are about 160 - 185 km away, i.e. about 1.5 hours drive.

Border traffic (thousand persons)

Two Inter-City trains take their way from Berlin and Hamburg to Cracow via Żary.

There are two airports near Żary, i.e. Babimost Airport (near Zielona Góra), and Rothenburg Airport (about 15 km away from Przewóz border-crossing point).

The inhabitants of Żary have access to the whole world via automatic telephone connections. As many as 320 persons have a telephone per 1000 inhabitants. There are two telecommunication companies, which enhances the quality of the services. The town is also located in a very good area as for cellular telephone networks.
